Oxford Geology

Created by Rachael one year ago

I was so sad to hear about Hugh's passing. I studied geology with Hugh at Oxford and have the most fond memories of that time. The times that stand out are mostly on the 6 week summer project we did in Northern Spain - a group of 6 of us in a mountain hamlet, mapping the geology, running away from scary mountain dogs and experiencing the local "nightlife". I have many pieces of music that I associate with Hugh and am desperate to re-find the mix-tape we made when we were out there. My lasting image of Hugh is dancing in a Spanish market square at a festival to a terrible cover of the Beatles "Come Together" by a local band - I have always thought of Hugh when that song came on, but will with a tear in my eye now.

I admit I lost touch with Hugh somewhat in the years after uni. We caught up at a couple of reunions and there was the time he stayed over with us ahead of running the London marathon (I still tell people about the amazing time he did!). We had been back in touch over the last year as my son was also diagnosed with a brain tumour, and he offered kind words even though going through his own struggles.

I'm sure his family are incredibly proud of his achievements and the man he was. You are in our thoughts at this difficult time xx
