One of my abiding memories of Hugh was charging around the house in Cardiff on all fours, with my brother Ed, and Duncan, pretending we were in the popular TV show Gladiators. We were pretending to be on some sort of conveyor belt. Duncan may remember this! I think we must have been about 7 years old. Much later in life, I could see that Hugh put all that exercise to far better use than I did and was in awe of his fell running achievements.
